Spring Cleaning

Get the “Dirt” on Spring Cleaning

  • Clean room-by-room and create lists to stay on task and avoid feeling stressed.
  • As you clean – organize your stuff into 4 categories – Trash, Donation, Store, or Put Away.
  • Involve the whole household!  The job will go much smoother and faster if everyone pitches in.  For kids, make it a game of cleaning up and reorganizing toys they no longer use.
  • Don’t be overwhelmed buying a ton of cleaning products – stick to the basics of what you need!
  • Work smarter, not harder by establishing new cleaning habits you can carry out throughout the year, so that the next time won’t be so brutal.
  • As you clean, don’t forget to check fire safety.  Daylight Savings is the perfect reminder to be sure smoke alarms are properly working and units are free of dust.
  • Look high (cobwebs on the light fixtures) and look low (baseboards and grout lines) while you clean.
  • Now is the perfect time to clean the appliances you may have pushed to the back burner the last few months.  Ovens, refrigerators, microwaves, and more work best when properly cleaned.  If the washing machine isn’t clean, your “clean” clothes aren’t either!
  • Junk drawers!  We all have 1.  Some of have a few.  I’ve lost count of how many I have.  Time to regroup, toss, and consolidate it back down to one well organized drawer.
  • Goodbye sweaters and jackets – we’ll see you next Fall!  Time to switch out the seasons in your closet.  Now is the perfect time to look through your winter clothing and donate anything you didn’t wear.  Pro tip: As you bring out your Spring/Summer clothing, flip your hangers backwards.  Once the item is worn, you can flip the hanger the correct way.  This is the perfect way to determine your donate items at the end of the season.
  • You’ve cleaned up the house – now don’t forget to wash your car!  If it’s really nice, you can even wash at home and enjoy the sunshine!
  • Lastly – time to get out your patio furniture and any other outside equipment you stored through the winter.  Give it a nice wipe down and get ready for some amazing backyard/front porch memories this Spring!
